# Emergency Air Conditioning Repair

When a system stops cooling, starts leaking or shuts down altogether, we diagnose the fault properly and explain what it will take to fix it, not just top it up and hope.

## What we handle

From the quick checks that solve some faults on the spot to full diagnostic repairs, here's what's covered.

### No Cooling or Warm Air Diagnosis

Working out why a system has stopped cooling, from power and control faults through to refrigerant issues.

### Leaking Indoor Unit Repair

Finding and fixing the cause of water dripping or pooling from an indoor unit before it damages the room.

### Leak Detection and Repair

Locating a refrigerant leak and repairing it properly rather than simply adding refrigerant back in.

### Electrical Fault and Shutdown Repair

Diagnosing tripped breakers, control faults and systems that won't power on or keep cutting out.

## When it genuinely can't wait

Some air conditioning faults are an inconvenience. Others aren't. A system down during a heatwave with young children, elderly relatives or anyone unwell in the house is a real problem, not just an annoyance. A shop, salon or cafe that can't trade comfortably in the heat is losing custom every hour it stays broken. And a server or comms room that overheats can shut equipment down entirely. We understand the difference between "this is annoying" and "this needs sorting now", and we treat each on its merits.

> A leaking unit is a job for the wall switch first, then the phone.

Before you call anyone, a few checks take two minutes and sometimes solve the problem outright. Has the unit actually got power, and has a breaker tripped at the consumer unit? Are the remote control's batteries flat or the display blank? Are the filters clogged solid, because a starved system will often stop cooling properly or ice up until they're cleared? If the indoor unit is dripping or pooling water inside the property, switch it off at the wall straight away rather than leaving it running, as that limits both water damage and electrical risk while it waits to be looked at.

More information

Once you call, the approach is straightforward: diagnosis first, always. We won't guess at a fix or offer to simply add refrigerant back in, because if a system has lost refrigerant, that almost always means a leak somewhere in the pipework, and topping it up just buys a repeat of the same fault a few weeks or months later. The proper fix is finding the leak, repairing it, and testing the system afterwards, so cooling comes back and stays back.

> We explain the fault in plain English before we touch anything, so you know what you're paying for and why.

We'll talk you through what's actually wrong in plain terms, what's involved in putting it right, and what that means for cost, before any work starts. Some faults are quick, a stuck filter, a reset breaker, a battery swap. Others need parts, a proper leak repair, or a system evacuation and retest, and we'll be upfront about which category yours falls into once we've had a look. Whether it's a garden office system in Woodingdean, a shop unit in Brighton, or a whole-house multi-split in Lewes or Worthing, the process is the same: find the fault, explain it, fix it properly.

We're the one point of contact throughout, from the initial call through to the refrigerant work itself, which is carried out by suitably qualified refrigerant engineers who work to us. One company, one number, one job managed start to finish, which is exactly how it should work when something in your home or business has stopped working properly.

## Before you call

Answers specific to air conditioning breakdowns and repairs, not a generic template.

How quickly can you get to us?

Give us a call and we'll talk through what's going on and what's possible. We'd rather be straight with you about timing than promise something we can't guarantee.

Can you just add more refrigerant to get it running again?

No. If a system has lost refrigerant, that means there's a leak somewhere in the pipework, so a top-up only masks the problem temporarily. The proper fix is finding the leak, repairing it, and testing the system afterwards.

My indoor unit is dripping water, what should I do?

Switch it off at the wall straight away. That limits water damage to the room and removes any electrical risk while it's waiting to be looked at.

What should I check before I call you out?

Check the unit has power and that no breaker has tripped, put fresh batteries in the remote, and have a look at whether the filters are heavily clogged. Those three things fix a surprising number of faults on their own.

How much will the repair cost?

There's no fixed price, because it depends on the fault, the parts needed and how easily the units can be reached. We diagnose first, then explain what's wrong and what putting it right involves before any work starts. Call 01273 911551 and we'll talk it through.

Who actually carries out the repair?

R.K Plumbing & Heating manages the whole job as your single point of contact. The refrigerant-specific work is carried out by suitably qualified refrigerant engineers who work to us, the same way a builder would bring in a qualified electrician.

Do you cover commercial premises as well as homes?

Yes. We repair air conditioning in offices, shops, salons and other small commercial premises as well as homes, since air conditioning work doesn't carry the same domestic/commercial split that gas work does.

Which areas do you cover for repairs?

We're based in Woodingdean and cover Brighton & Hove plus surrounding Sussex towns including Worthing, Lewes, Shoreham-by-Sea, Haywards Heath, Seaford and Burgess Hill.
