It's usually a quick job for a plumber who knows what they're doing, but it needs the water isolated safely, the right replacement part for your particular tap, and a proper test afterwards to make sure it's actually fixed and not just quieter for a week. Most tap faults come down to a handful of causes: a worn washer or O-ring, a failed cartridge, a corroded valve seat, or general wear on older fittings. Compression taps, mixer taps and ceramic disc taps all work differently inside, so the fix depends on what you've actually got. We turn off the supply, take the tap apart, identify what's failed, and either repair it with the correct parts or, if the tap itself is too far gone, talk you through replacing it rather than patching something that'll fail again in a month. > A tap that's fixed properly shouldn't need fixing again in six months. Sometimes the honest answer is that repair isn't worth it, particularly on older or cheaper taps where the internals are badly corroded. We'll always tell you straight if replacement makes more sense than repair, rather than charging you twice for the same problem. How long does a tap repair usually take? Most tap repairs are done within a single visit, often in under an hour once we've isolated the water and identified the fault. Will you always be able to repair my tap, or might it need replacing? It depends on the type and condition of the tap. If the internals are badly worn or corroded, replacement is often more sensible than repeated repairs, and we'll tell you honestly which makes more sense. Do I need to turn my water off before you arrive? No, we'll isolate the supply safely as part of the job, though it helps to know where your stopcock is in case of any issues beforehand. Can you match parts for older or unusual taps? In most cases yes, though some older or discontinued taps may need a specific cartridge or washer sourced, which we'll flag before starting.
