No Hot Water Repair
No hot water usually comes down to one failed component rather than a system at the end of its life, and we will tell you honestly which it is. We find the fault, explain what is causing it, and get dependable hot water back to every tap in the house.

What's involved
Hot water fails in a handful of predictable ways, and here is what we check, repair and test.
Fault Diagnosis
Working out whether the problem sits with the boiler, the controls, the cylinder or the pipework, before any parts are changed.
Boiler and Gas Repairs
Ignition faults, diverter valves, thermostats and gas supply problems on domestic boilers, carried out under our Gas Safe registration.
Cylinders and Immersions
Vented and unvented hot water cylinders, immersion elements, thermostats and the controls that feed them.
Testing and Handover
Running several outlets together to check the temperature holds, then setting the controls sensibly and showing you how they work.
When the hot water stops
Losing hot water goes from mildly annoying to genuinely disruptive by about the second morning. The good news is that it is usually a single component that has given up rather than a whole system that needs replacing, and a proper diagnosis normally tells us which.
The first question we ask is a simple one: has the hot water gone everywhere, or only at one tap? That answer alone splits the problem in half. Nothing anywhere points at the boiler, the cylinder or the controls; nothing at a single outlet points at that fixture, its cartridge, or the pipework feeding it.
Diagnosis first, parts second. Changing components in the hope of a fix is how people end up paying twice.
How we work it out
We start at the controls, because a surprising number of no hot water calls turn out to be a programmer that lost its schedule after a power cut, or a cylinder thermostat sitting far lower than anyone realised. From there we work through the system properly.
On a combi boiler, hot water and heating are handled by different parts, which is why the heating can carry on working while the hot water disappears. A stuck diverter valve, a failed flow sensor or a scaled plate heat exchanger will each produce that exact symptom, and each is repairable.
On a system or regular boiler with a cylinder, we check that the boiler is firing, that the hot water zone valve is opening, that the cylinder thermostat is calling correctly, and, on an unvented cylinder, that the immersion, expansion vessel and controls are all behaving.
Work on the gas side is domestic and is carried out under our Gas Safe registration, 568345. We are also an accredited Vaillant installer, which helps when a Vaillant boiler is the thing that has stopped.
More information
Faults that most often cause it
- A programmer or timer that has lost its settings
- A cylinder or boiler thermostat set too low, or failed outright
- A stuck diverter valve on a combi boiler
- A scaled or blocked plate heat exchanger
- A failed immersion element or immersion thermostat
- A hot water zone valve that is not opening
- Ignition or flame sensing faults stopping the boiler firing
- An airlock, or an isolation valve left partly closed after other work
Putting it right, and proving it
Once we know the cause, we explain what it is and what fixing it involves before we start. If a part is needed, you will hear what it is and why. If a boiler is genuinely past sensible repair, badly corroded or failing again and again, we will say so plainly rather than keep charging to patch it, and we can talk through replacement instead.
After the repair the system is tested rather than assumed. We run more than one outlet at a time, check the temperature holds steady instead of sagging after a minute or two, look over the joints we have disturbed, and set the controls to something sensible before we leave.
A tap that runs hot for a moment is not a repair. It has to hold under real use.
If you let a property, we can carry out the domestic gas safety check and issue the CP12 landlord gas safety certificate at the same visit, which saves calling us out twice.
We are based in Woodingdean and cover Brighton, Hove, Worthing, Lewes, Shoreham-by-Sea, Haywards Heath, Seaford, Burgess Hill and surrounding Sussex towns, and you are welcome to call in at 58 Warren Road if you would rather talk it through in person.
