Bathroom Design

Before any tiling or plumbing starts, we sit down and work out exactly how your new bathroom should look and function. We design every layout with the installation in mind, so what's drawn up is what actually gets built, properly and without surprises.

Getting the layout right before a single tile is cut

A bathroom design service is really just careful planning: working out where everything goes, how the space will feel, and what's practical given the pipework and structure you've already got. Done properly, it means fewer decisions being made on the fly once the room is stripped back, and a much better chance of the finished bathroom actually working the way you imagined it.

We start with a visit to measure the room properly and talk through what you want from it, whether that's a family bathroom that needs to earn its keep, a wet room for easier access, or an en-suite squeezed into an awkward space. From there we work out a layout that makes sense of the existing plumbing, doors and windows, and talk you through the options for suites, tiling and finishes before anything is ordered.

A good bathroom design solves the awkward bits before they become expensive problems on-site.

Because R.K designs and fits the bathroom as one job, the design stage is grounded in what's actually achievable, not just what looks good on paper. That matters when water pressure, drainage falls or a boxed-in soil pipe might otherwise cause headaches halfway through the install.

More information

One of the most common concerns customers raise is not knowing what a finished layout will actually look or feel like until it's too late to change. Talking it through properly at the design stage, with clear plans and product suggestions, takes most of that guesswork out of it. It also helps set realistic expectations on cost and timescale before any work starts.

Design and installation from the same hands means nothing gets lost in translation on-site.

We are based in Woodingdean and cover Brighton, Hove, Worthing, Lewes, Shoreham-by-Sea, Haywards Heath, Seaford, Burgess Hill and surrounding Sussex towns. Whether it's a full renovation, a wet room for an ageing relative, or an en-suite as part of a loft conversion, the same approach applies: measure properly, plan around the practicalities, and make sure the design is one that can genuinely be built.

If you're at the early stages of thinking about a new bathroom, getting the design right first is the sensible place to start. The FAQs below cover the practical questions most people ask before booking a design visit.

Before you book

Straight answers to the questions we're asked most before starting a bathroom design.

Is the design a separate service, or part of the installation?
We offer design as part of the overall bathroom project, planning the layout and finishes before our team carries out the full first and second fix installation.
What do I need to provide before a design visit?
Just rough measurements or photos if you have them, plus an idea of your budget and how you want the space to work; we'll measure properly on-site.
Can you design a wet room or accessible bathroom?
Yes, wet rooms, en-suites and accessible bathrooms with step-free access are all things we plan for regularly, including drainage falls and waterproofing at the design stage.
Do you provide drawings or visuals of the design?
You'll get a clear layout plan and product suggestions to work from, so you know what's being proposed before installation begins.
How long does the design stage take?
It varies with the complexity of the room, but most designs are agreed within a couple of visits once measurements and preferences are confirmed.
Do you only design bathrooms you're also going to fit?
Our design work is geared towards bathrooms we go on to install, since that's how we make sure the plan is genuinely buildable given the existing plumbing and structure.
Which areas do you cover for bathroom design?
We are based in Woodingdean and cover Brighton, Hove, Worthing, Lewes, Shoreham-by-Sea, Haywards Heath, Seaford, Burgess Hill and surrounding Sussex towns.
Are you qualified to handle the plumbing and gas side too?
Yes. We are Gas Safe registered for domestic gas work, registration 568345, and an accredited Vaillant installer, so heating and hot water can be planned into the bathroom design from the start.
