Tracking down leaks without tearing your home apart

A leak doesn't always announce itself with a puddle on the floor. More often it shows up as a higher-than-usual water bill, a damp patch that won't dry out, a faint sound of running water when nothing's switched on, or a musty smell that won't go away. Any of these are worth getting checked, especially before they turn into a bigger repair job or damage to walls, floors or ceilings.

We start with a proper look at what's actually going on: checking visible pipework, fittings, shutoff valves and your water meter first, since sometimes the answer is simpler than expected. Where the leak isn't obvious, we use pressure testing and listening equipment to narrow things down without lifting floors or opening up walls unless it's genuinely necessary.

Once we've pinpointed the source, we'll talk you through what we've found and what the repair involves before doing any work. Where it makes sense, we can carry out the repair on the same visit. After the fix, we test again to confirm the leak is actually resolved, not just quieter for a week.

Not necessarily. We aim to trace the leak as precisely as possible first, so any opening-up work is targeted rather than exploratory.
