Tap Repair
A dripping or stubborn tap is rarely a big job, but it's an annoying one, and R.K Plumbing & Heating sorts it properly, first time, without leaving a mess behind. Our team fixes all types of taps for homeowners across Brighton, Hove and the surrounding Sussex towns.
Common tap problems we sort
From a steady drip to a tap that won't turn properly, here's what we're usually called out for.
Dripping Tap Repair
Worn washers, O-rings or seals replaced to stop that constant drip for good.
Cartridge & Mixer Tap Fixes
Modern mixer and cartridge taps repaired or the internal cartridge swapped out when it's worn.
Stiff or Seized Taps
Corroded seats and stuck valves freed up, cleaned or replaced so the tap turns easily again.
Tap Replacement
Where a tap is too worn or damaged to repair economically, we'll supply and fit a new one.
Fixing the small jobs properly, not just papering over them
A leaking or stiff tap seems minor until you're the one listening to it drip every night, or fighting with it every morning. It's usually a quick job for a plumber who knows what they're doing, but it needs the water isolated safely, the right replacement part for your particular tap, and a proper test afterwards to make sure it's actually fixed and not just quieter for a week.
Most tap faults come down to a handful of causes: a worn washer or O-ring, a failed cartridge, a corroded valve seat, or general wear on older fittings. Compression taps, mixer taps and ceramic disc taps all work differently inside, so the fix depends on what you've actually got. We turn off the supply, take the tap apart, identify what's failed, and either repair it with the correct parts or, if the tap itself is too far gone, talk you through replacing it rather than patching something that'll fail again in a month.
A tap that's fixed properly shouldn't need fixing again in six months.
Sometimes the honest answer is that repair isn't worth it, particularly on older or cheaper taps where the internals are badly corroded. We'll always tell you straight if replacement makes more sense than repair, rather than charging you twice for the same problem.
More information
We are based in Woodingdean and cover Brighton, Hove, Worthing, Lewes, Shoreham-by-Sea, Haywards Heath, Seaford, Burgess Hill and surrounding Sussex towns, and tap repairs are usually done alongside other general plumbing work in the same visit if there's anything else that needs a look. It's often the kind of small job that gets booked in alongside a boiler service or a bathroom snag, so if you've got more than one thing niggling at you, mention it when you call.
What's usually included
- Isolating the water supply safely before any work starts
- Diagnosing the actual fault rather than guessing
- Replacing washers, O-rings, cartridges or seats as needed
- Testing the tap fully once reassembled
Tidy work and a proper test at the end matter more than the size of the job.
If it turns out the tap needs replacing rather than repairing, we can usually sort that on the same visit, or come back with the right one if it's something specific. Either way, you'll know before we start roughly what's involved.

“We have used R.K.Plumbing a few times now and are more than happy with there work. From installing a new boiler, servicing, renewing mixed bath taps etc... From what we saw they all work out very well as a team. We were very impressed with Harry when he installed the boiler,(last year) honestly the copper piping he done was real artwork nice and tidy. Not taking away any credits from the others who done very good work also( I just forgot there names, so do excuse me) would I use them again 100% We must also say a big thank you to Amber(office) who fixed all the dates to our convienence.”
