Air Conditioning

Air Conditioning Installation

R.K Plumbing & Heating design and install air conditioning for homes and small businesses across Brighton, Hove and Sussex, one company managing the whole job from survey to finished wall. A good system cools in summer and heats efficiently in winter, so it works far harder than most people expect.

Rooms we're asked about most

Air conditioning tends to get requested for a specific room first. Here's where we're called out to most, with more detail on each.

Garden Rooms & Offices

Cooling and heating for garden offices and garden rooms that get too hot to work in for half the year.

Home Gyms

Steady temperature control for home gyms, where heat and humidity build up fast.

Loft Conversions

Cooling for loft conversions that trap heat under the roofline, plus heating for the colder months.

Conservatories & Bedrooms

Comfort for glazed conservatories and south-facing bedrooms that overheat in summer sun.

Air conditioning that earns its keep all year

Most people still think of air conditioning as a summer purchase, something you switch on for a few hot weeks and forget about the rest of the year. That's not how a modern system actually works. Domestic units fitted today are almost always reverse-cycle, meaning the same system that cools a room in July can heat it efficiently in January. For a garden office, a loft conversion or a bedroom that's always been awkward to heat or cool, that changes the maths on the whole purchase.

A system that only earns its keep for six weeks a year isn't doing its job. A good one works in January as well as July.

We cover the full range of domestic air conditioning: single rooms that overheat or run cold, whole-house comfort with wall-mounted split or multi-split systems, and small commercial premises like offices, shops and salons that need reliable cooling. There's no domestic/commercial split with air conditioning the way there is with gas work, so we take on both under the same standard of finish.

How an installation actually happens

Every job starts with a proper survey, not a guess. We look at the room's size, glazing, insulation and how it's used, work out where the indoor and outdoor units make sense, and plan the pipe route and drainage before anything gets fitted. That planning stage is where a tidy job is decided, long before a drill comes out.

More information

On install day, the indoor unit goes up, the outdoor unit is sited somewhere sensible for noise and access, and the refrigerant pipework, condensate drainage and electrical connection are run between them. We're the contractor on every job from start to finish, so you deal with one company and one number throughout. The refrigerant work itself is carried out by suitably qualified refrigerant engineers working to us, which is completely normal practice, the same way a builder brings in a qualified electrician for wiring.

One company manages your whole job, survey through to making good, so nothing falls between two contractors.

The thing most people worry about is the pipe run down the front of the house, and it's a fair worry. Access, route and finish are part of the survey conversation from day one, and once the system's in, we make good properly wherever we've had to pass pipework through a wall or disturb a finish. That's the bit that separates a job that looks fitted from one that looks bolted on.

We don't quote prices without seeing the room, and we won't pretend otherwise. What actually drives the cost is room size and glazing, whether it's one room or several, how long and accessible the pipe run is, what the electrical supply needs, and how much making good the finish requires. A survey answers all of that properly, and it's the only honest way to price the job.

We cover Brighton, Hove, Woodingdean, Worthing, Lewes, Shoreham-by-Sea, Haywards Heath, Seaford and the surrounding Sussex towns, working from our base in Woodingdean. If you've got a specific room in mind, garden office, home gym, loft conversion, conservatory or bedroom, it's worth having a look at that room's page for more detail, or just give us a call and we'll talk it through.

Before you book

Answers to what people actually ask us before an air conditioning survey.

Can air conditioning really heat a room as well as cool it?
Yes, most modern domestic systems are reverse-cycle, meaning the same unit cools in summer and heats efficiently in winter, often making a single room usable all year round.
How much does air conditioning installation cost?
It depends on room size and glazing, how many rooms are involved, the pipe run length and access, and the electrical supply, so we quote after a survey rather than guessing over the phone.
Will the pipework be visible from outside my house?
We plan the pipe route as part of the survey and make good afterwards, and we take real care with front-facing runs since that's usually people's main concern.
Who actually does the refrigerant work?
The refrigerant work is carried out by suitably qualified refrigerant engineers who work to us, while we manage the survey, siting, pipe routes, electrics and making good as the contractor on the job.
Do you only do homes, or offices and shops too?
Both. Air conditioning doesn't carry the domestic/commercial split that gas work does, so we install and maintain systems in offices, shops, salons and similar small premises as well as homes.
How quickly can you fit air conditioning?
It varies job to job, so give us a call and we'll talk through timing once we know what's involved.
What sizes or types of system do you fit?
We fit whatever suits the room and the job, from a single wall-mounted unit for one room to multi-split systems covering a whole house, sized correctly after a proper survey.
Which areas do you cover for air conditioning?
We install across Brighton, Hove, Woodingdean, Worthing, Lewes, Shoreham-by-Sea, Haywards Heath, Seaford and the surrounding Sussex towns.
