What's involved in a commercial fit

Every small premises is different, but the job breaks down into a few consistent stages from survey to handover.

Survey and system design

We assess the space, the glazing, the layout and how it's used to size a system that suits it, not an off-the-shelf guess.

Discreet indoor and outdoor siting

Units, pipework and trunking positioned to work well and stay visually out of the way in customer-facing rooms.

Work planned around your trading hours

We agree the timing with you before we start, so the disruption to your business is kept to a minimum.

Commissioning and aftercare

Full handover once the system's running properly, with servicing and filter checks available to keep it that way.

Comfort for staff and customers, without the disruption

A shop, salon, office or cafe lives or dies on the customer experience, and an overheated or stuffy room undoes a lot of good work elsewhere. Commercial air conditioning installation for small premises is about getting a properly sized system into the space without it dominating the room or your diary. That means thinking about how the space is used, who's in it, and when you can least afford to have the doors shut.

We start with a survey of the room, the same way we would for any bathroom or heating job: glazing, footfall, layout, where power is available, and where an outdoor unit can go without becoming an eyesore or a planning headache. From there we design a system sized correctly for the space, position the indoor unit somewhere it does its job without hanging over the till point or the client chairs, and route pipework and trunking as tidily as the building allows.

One contractor, one number, one team, from the first site visit to the last filter clean.

Timing is agreed with you before we start, so the disruption to your business is kept to a minimum. R.K are the contractor on every job, we handle the survey, siting, pipe routes, electrics and making good, and the refrigerant work itself is carried out by suitably qualified refrigerant engineers who work to us. You deal with us throughout, not a chain of subcontractors.

More information

Running cost matters as much as the install itself, and a correctly sized system generally costs less to run than an oversized one or a stopgap like portable units. Modern air conditioning also heats as well as cools, which is worth knowing if you're weighing it up against your existing heating for a room that's cold in winter and stuffy in summer, salons and treatment rooms particularly.

We won't quote a price without seeing the space, because cost depends on the size of the room, how many units you need, the pipe run and how easy access is, and how much making good the finish requires. What we will do on-site is flag anything that could hold the job up. If you're in a leased unit, landlord consent is usually needed before any alteration goes ahead, and we'd rather raise that on day one than have it stall the job later. Brighton has a fair few listed buildings and conservation areas too, so if your outdoor unit or shopfront falls into that category, it's worth checking before anything's ordered.

We'd rather flag a planning or consent issue on the first visit than have it stop the job halfway through.

We cover small commercial premises across Brighton, Hove, Worthing, Lewes, Shoreham-by-Sea, Haywards Heath, Seaford, Burgess Hill and the surrounding Sussex towns, working alongside the domestic air conditioning, bathroom and heating jobs we do day to day. If you run a shop, salon, barbers, cafe, treatment room or small studio and you're tired of propping the door open in summer, get in touch and we'll come and have a look.

Before you get a quote

Answers to what small business owners actually ask us before booking a survey.

Can you install air conditioning without disrupting our trading hours?
We agree timing with you when we quote, so the work fits around how your business runs and the disruption is kept to a minimum.
Who handles the refrigerant work?
R.K is the contractor throughout and manages the whole job, but the refrigerant side is carried out by suitably qualified refrigerant engineers who work to us. You only ever deal with R.K.
How much does commercial air conditioning installation cost?
It depends on the size of the space, how many rooms need covering, the pipe run and access, and how much making good the finish needs, so we quote after a survey rather than over the phone.
Will the outdoor unit look out of place on our building?
We position units to be as discreet as possible, and in Brighton particularly we check early on whether listed-building or conservation-area rules affect what's visible from the street.
We're in a leased unit, do we need our landlord's permission?
Very likely yes. Landlord consent is usually needed before installing or altering anything in a rented commercial space, and we'd rather that gets sorted before work starts than during it.
Does the system heat as well as cool?
Most modern systems we fit can do both, reverse-cycle units cool in summer and heat the space in winter, which is worth factoring in if you're weighing it up against existing heating.
Do you offer ongoing servicing after installation?
Yes, filter cleaning, drainage checks and periodic inspection are available to keep the system running efficiently once it's installed.
Do you cover shops and salons outside Brighton itself?
Yes, we cover small commercial premises across Hove, Worthing, Lewes, Shoreham-by-Sea, Haywards Heath, Seaford, Burgess Hill and nearby Sussex towns as well as Brighton.
